Stopping violence programmes for men
The way we think is the way we treat
"I'm the King of the Castle" thinking leads to "King of the Castle" demanding, ill-treating, abusive behaviour. Men come to SVS with many such abusive beliefs about rights over and expectations of women and children.
At the core is one belief that says it's okay to use abuse to get the power and control they demand. Changing how we think about situations and what we think our rights are changes how we treat others.
Respectful, equality-based thinking = respectful, equality-based relationships
At SVS we often hear of two pictures - the well-liked respected man at work, and the feared and disliked tyrant at home. How come he's this at home and that at work?
Simply put: CHOICE. It's your call, your choice. What will it be? - Confusion, fear, violence and abuse; or Respect, trust and non-violence?
Early warning signs
People don't suddenly snap or lose the plot. There are always events, feelings, thoughts or internal signs way before the violence. Choosing a different action or seeing an early warning sign is one step in breaking the Cycle of Violence.
